With A Bear Pie!
I thought I’d take one page on here and dedicate it to my son Seamus who was called home after a battle with leukemia. My wife and I miss him dearly and the last just shy of 5 years have been almost unbearable, so I wanted one page on my site for remembrance.
I thought I might share stories, random thoughts and pictures.
Seamus And a Bear Pie …
Well Howdy Doo! So, a few days ago my wife and I both had a rough work day and were in a quandary about what to do for dinner. Now, most of you know but, for those that don’t, we lost our son Seamus to leukemia on April 23 of 2013. It’s hard and it’s with us everyday. There are some things we can do and some that are just too hard, and sometimes my wife and I are both in different places in our grieving process.
So, as we were heading home and getting close, we both looked at each other(we were at a stop light) and said,”McSalty’s”, as if Seamus was pointing us in that direction. The 3 of us would always order a large Bear Pie and split a Sea Chef. We decided we’d just get a Sea Chef, one of their great specialty salads, and split it. When we got there, my wife couldn’t go in so, I went in to order it to go.
I figured since I went in to order that I deserved a beer while I waited(I cleared it with my wife first). I ordered a Mother’s Lil Helper IPA and when the nice young lady went to pour, the keg blew. She was polite and apologized and asked if I’d like anything else, I said a Mothers Tow Head would work just fine. There was about 8 oz of the Lil Helper in the glass, she asked if I would like it, I said sure and thanked her.
I finished my partial brew and while I was working on the other one, one of the cooks asked me if I’d like a free Bear Pie, apparently one was ordered and never picked up.
The Bear Pie is a wonderful pizza that has Italian sausage, black olives, onions, mushrooms, green peppers and who knows what else. however, what sets them apart is their whole wheat crust.
We hadn’t been able to go there since we lost Seamus 2+ years ago and we both feel like Seamus steered us there that day and he made sure mom & dad had a Bear Pie & a Sea Chef, that’s what we believe anyway.
My memories aside, if you’re ever in Springfield Mo, look up McSalty’s, the pizza is exceptional and, for us, the friendly faces are beautiful!
I miss my son terribly but writing about him helps.
